Middle School

LYTE begins working with students the summer before their 8th grade year and works with them throughout the school year to access some of the most rigorous high school programs in the state of Delaware. Our students attend the best schools and programs in Delaware, whether private schools, independent schools, parochial schools, or public and charter honors programs. Students in the program have received full scholarships and financial aid to some of the most elite independent and parochial schools and have excelled in these programs. Many also attend and have performed outstandingly in honors programs in district and charter schools.

LYTE’s preeminent goal is to prepare students to excel in the most difficult high school courses, no matter what school they attend. We do this by increasing the rigor and volume of their workload after school and over the summer. Scholars meet with us 2-4 times a week. In addition to embracing an intensive academic challenge, they learn how to navigate the convoluted high school application process. LYTE is also committed to empowering these students as leaders in their communities.

LYTE’s academic and mentorship support continues from eighth grade through high school. When students enter high school, LYTE’s high school advocate works with them to navigate their new environment. This support includes: advice on choosing courses, setting them up with tutoring, connecting them to a mentor, finding internships, and assisting them with the college application process.

High School

Leading Youth Through Empowerment is a completely free program. We work with low-income and minority students to access high school and college through personal mentoring, rigorous teaching, and leadership. If you are receiving this application, a mentor, program partner, or teacher thinks you would be a great fit.

Our program has been extremely successful in helping students gain admission to college and ensuring that they receive large financial grants and scholarships.

The high school program has many components, while respecting our Scholars’ time to live their lives. We hold personalized meetings with students—both at their school and virtually—to ensure that students can still participate in other activities that are important to their high school experience.

In addition to personalized meetings, the high school program offers:

  • College application assistance for 11-12th graders
  • Scholarship and Financial Aid Application Assistance
  • College scholarship assistance over 4 years (18 full scholarships to college for 9th graders in the last 2 years)
  • Mentorship
  • Afterschool/virtual SAT Prep
  • Afterschool/virtual tutoring
  • Assistance finding meaningful internships and summer opportunities (often paid)
  • Assistance with course selection
  • Leadership skills and training

And much more!
